About Green Gourmet


A Relationship Based on Trust.

Once you decide to hire a personal chef, we recommend that you interview a couple of firms. There are several excellent personal chef services in the Twin Cities area. Hiring a personal chef, who will be in your home and responsible for your food, is one of the most important decisions you will ever make. It is a business relationship founded in great trust.

Ironically, after the first interview and consultation, you may rarely see your personal chef. He or she is usually working in your home while you are away. Yet it is a very close, personal relationship. And it is important to make sure you feel it to be a good fit – for your budget, for your personality, and for your peace of mind.

How Does It Work?

The first step is a fairly extensive interview. We’ll discuss everything from the way your kitchen works to food allergies. What are your most favorite and least favorite foods? How do you like your steamed vegetables cooked? Are you a garlic fan? Can we use alcohol in recipes?

Are there are special dietary considerations? Are you trying to lose weight? Has your doctor told you to modify your diet? Are there cardiac conditions, diabetes, or other health-related concerns? Do you eat meat or are you moving into a vegetarian or vegan lifestyle? Do you prefer organically grown foods whenever possible?

We can accommodate all these concerns in a custom-designed menu plan each that is specific to your needs and requests.

The next step is logistics. We’ll talk about the best days for you and your family to have us working in your home. We’ll talk about containers, thawing, and reheating your meals. We’ll talk about communication – what works best for you in getting your preferences to us. We’ll go over a service agreement together to make sure all your questions are answered. We’ll discuss invoicing and payment schedules.

After that comes the fun part! Peruse our website, check your favorite ‘foodie’ magazines, or think back to your favorite home cooked meals and let us know what you’d love to have “magically appear” in your refrigerator. Send us your menu preferences, along with your “other stuff” grocery list. We will do the shopping and provide you with a receipt for your records.

Why “Green Gourmet”?

We chose the name Green Gourmet because it represents our commitment to quality, healthy, gourmet meals made with the freshest and finest ingredients possible.

Second, we believe – passionately – in working with the environment in every possible way. This means drastically reducing not only the amount of driving we do each day, but reducing the amount of trash we generate. No more styrofoam, no more plastic silverware, no more fast food packaging. By using a personal chef you are insuring that there will be only one trip to the grocery store in a given week. Menus are carefully planned, with no last-minute trips to the store for a forgotten ingredient.

Third, we advocate that as consumers we should ‘vote our principles’ every single day. Our shopping is thoughtful, focused on buying what is freshest, in-season, and locally grown. As a past natural food co-op board member and produce buyer, Chef Michele has spent decades committed to living these principles. By hiring Green Gourmet as your personal chef service, you will be bringing those “vote with your pocketbook” principles to your patterns of consumption as well.

But let us not be “food Nazis.” We judiciously clip coupons, buy in bulk when the prices are right, and shop the store that offers the best deals that week. And we will bring those savings to your bottom line.

After a 25 year career in everything from commercial real estate brokerage to designing and producing corporate training for Fortune 500 companies I decided to quit dying my hair, lose the suit and heels, and “follow my bliss.”

While I do not have a formal commercial food background, in the distant past I owned a catering business for a couple of years – small and personal, dinner parties and weddings. I was pulled into it effortlessly and naturally because friends and family were so enthusiastic about my menus, entertaining events, and commitment to highest quality home cooked meals. Connections made through that business led me into other business ventures that were more profitable at the time and better suited for my life as a working mother.

Well, the child is raised and has flown the nest. I found myself free to return to my first and only true love – cooking. For over 30 years I have delighted in creating from-scratch special meals to nourish, comfort, and tickle the people around me.

It is my art. It is my passion. And now I am pleased to be able to share it with you!
